Savage Parade

Thursday, April 8, 2010 - 14:00 - 16:00
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Featuring the poetry of 19th century french poet Paul Verlaine set to music by the composers Ernest Chausson, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Charles Bordes, Savage Parade reveals the two conflicting loves of Verlaine: his wife, Mathilde Mauté, and his protege, Arthur Rimbaud. We discover the cruel absinthian fate that befalls the “ Prince des Poètes” in a work that draws on his true history.

In this two-man performance, baritone Michael Robert-Broder portrays the profound and distraught Paul Verlaine, while pianist Damien Jinks plays the riotous firebrand, Arthur Rimbaud. Savage Parade examines the emotional turbulence of Verlaine through his exquisite poetry and begins to take on a life of its own, breaking boundaries of both theatre and art song.
